How swapping works

Item-for-item swap, choosing your item, delivery, and moving to chat.

What is a swap?

A swap is an item-for-item trade. You offer something you own in exchange for something the other person has listed. No money changes hands unless you choose a paid delivery option (e.g. locker or courier). Swapping works for both native and imported listings.

Steps to swap

  1. Find an item you want and tap or click Swap.
  2. Choose which of your listings you want to offer (or add a new item on the spot). You can use filters to pick quickly.
  3. Select how you’d like to complete the trade: in-person meetup, locker, courier, or HQ verification. See Delivery options overview.
  4. Review the summary: the item you want, your offer, delivery method, and any fees. Edit if needed.
  5. Confirm and send. A transaction session is created and the other user gets a notification. You’re both taken to a chat thread to agree final details and complete the swap. See What happens after you send a request and Chat during a swap or offer.

Negotiation in chat

In chat, the other person can accept, reject, or counter (e.g. different item, different delivery). You can do the same. Once you both agree, you complete the swap using the chosen delivery method. See Counteroffers and negotiation.

When no payment is needed

For in-person meetups you typically don’t pay Swopsee. You only pay if you use locker, courier, or HQ verification—those fees are shown before you confirm. See When you pay on Swopsee.
